Draft Swim Brief - Subject to Change
Participants will enter the water from the beach approximately 300 metres south of the Transition and swim out and back and exit in line with the transition area. There will be three swim waves (the 115 fastest starting first etc).
It is important that you supply an accurate estimation of your swim time so that you can be allocated to the appropriate wave start. Please note that you must start with your designated wave group.
On the day there will be a series of Marshals ensuring a safe swim for all concerned - this will include rescue kayaks, rescue boat, qualified lifeguards along the beach and in the boat.
A Full Swim Brief will be issued to all participants and will be available on this Website in the coming weeks. Participants must read the Full Swim Brief in advance of the race and listen to the Swim Brief by the Race Director on the Race Day. In the interim here are some basic rules that will not change;
- For safety reasons there will be a time gap between each swim wave start. If you are a weak swimmer keep to the back of your wave start.
- Swimming for exit: We will have the exit well signed and buoys will be in place to ensure that there is a safe exit from the water.
- Canoeists, assisted by power boat and shore lifeguards will marshal the swim course.
- If a swimmer wishes to retire from the swim for any reason, they should lie on their back, raise their clenched fist in the air, stay calm and a rescue canoeist will come to your assistance. Follow the instructions of the marshal who will bring you to safety.
- There will be a time limit of 40 minutes on the swim. This will be confirmed on the day by the Race Director. A swim marshal has full discretion to remove you from the swim if they feel that you are endangering yourself or others. Don't worry; the vast majority of swimmers will be finished in good time.
- If you are assisted in the swim or your swim is cut short by the race director, you will be allowed to continue the race if you wish to do so but will receive no official time and your timing chip will be removed.
