Weekend Report
I joined Pulse in December 2024 and decided to sign myself up for the Spring Training Weekend!
The weekend kicked off in style on the first Friday of April with a swim session at Athlone Regional Sports Centre. One of the drills involved swimming with our ankles tied together – a first for me! We wrapped things up with a team relay (which the middle lane won btw ).
We stayed at the Hodson Bay Hotel on the shores of Lough Ree—a beautiful setting for the weekend! Friday night involved a few lemonades and, for me, the chance to get to know other members. Then it was off to bed with fingers crossed for decent weather.
The weather played ball, thank God! Saturday morning saw two groups heading out: one along the Greenway, and the other cycling to Lanesborough. I stuck with the Lanesborough crew and ended up clocking my longest cycle ever! Some even went the extra mile—literally—and did a full lap of Lough Ree.
Back at base, we regrouped for a strength and conditioning session, which Cait kindly turned into a much-needed stretching class after some very polite lobbying from the crew.
It isn’t only about the training
Post-stretch, it was time for the real reward: jacuzzi and sauna. Bliss.
Saturday night brought us all together again for a delicious dinner and, yes, a few more lemonades. Great food, great chats, and plenty of laughs.
On Sunday morning, we went for a run in the lovely park just beside the hotel. Two brave souls even took a dip in Lough Ree for the cure .
Big shoutout to Tom and Miriam for organising such a fantastic weekend, which ran seamlessly, and to Cait and Dee for coaching the sessions .
All in all, the weekend was the perfect mix of training, teamwork, and top-tier craic, especially for me as a newbie member! I can’t wait for the next one!
