The Pulse 2025 Committee
Karen Nolan – Chairperson

I’m delighted to take on the role as Chairperson for the next 2 years. It’s made easier as the outgoing chairperson Jen Shorten is my close friend and has left things in great shape. I’ve big shoes to fill.
I joined Pulse in January 2013 to challenge myself and take on my first Triathlon in Tri Athy. Looking back, it’s been the best decision, as I have challenged myself, met lifelong friends & ticked off a few bucket list items!
While I might not be actively training at the moment, I have always maintained an active role in Pulse and I have been involved on the committee since 2014, starting off as Swim Rep, then Events, Membership, Finance and now the Chairperson.
I look forward to seeing what 2025 has to bring for everyone involved in the club.
Bill Stanley – Club Administrator

Like many people, I ventured into sea swimming during the COVID years, taking my first tentative strokes in a wet suit I bought online – something that few people advise.
I had a background in running and more recently cycling, so once I had got over the initial shock of the open water, the next logical step was to pop my triathlon cherry. I have been doing triathlons for three years now and have been a member of Pulse for most of that time.
There are many things I love about triathlon, but the best thing is that you are always learning new things and growing as a person – no matter what stage or age you are at. In my experience, the best way to keep growing is to become an active member of a Club.
Miriam Staunton – Training Officer

I joined Pulse Tri Club in 2009 and have been a member ever since. I’ve completed every distance from Sprint to Ironman over the intervening years. I have 3 children, all who are or have been members of the Junior club over the years. I love the social aspect of triathlon and Pulse in particular.
This is my second year in Training, it’s a busy role and it keeps me very close to what’s going on at the club which I really enjoy.
My aim for the role has been to reinvigorate our training sessions to ensure we provide high quality coaching across all relevant skills. This year we will add an overarching season plan tailored for 3 main athlete groups; New2Tri, Sprint/Standard distance athletes and Middle/Long distance athletes. We’ll continue to seek feedback from club members to tailor the offering to work for as many members as possible.
Judith Boylan, Membership Officer

I was running for a couple of years prior to doing triathlon and wanted a change. So I decided one Jan as a new year’s resolution, to join a triathlon club and the rest is history :)
The camaraderie within Pulse Triathlon club is inspiring, as we all support one another in our journeys. It’s such a social club where I have made friends for life and gone on so many trips both home and abroad racing and supporting.
I have gained a great deal from this club and am eager to contribute in return. A club needs volunteers to operate 😃.
Steve McDonald, Race Director

I joined Pulse in February 2020, just as Covid hit. I had been cycling with LCRC cycle club in Lucan for a few years prior to that and had always been curious about trying triathlon but never took the plunge. I finally got my act together and the whole place ground to a halt. I had just booked my first swim training session with the club when Leo put the country in lockdown. I had to wait until the end of the following season for my first race in Skerries. I’ve been hooked ever since.
The virtual races and relays run by the club through social media, were a great way to get to know club members during lock down and a testament to the social nature of the club, as well as a great antidote to being cooped up. I’ve really enjoyed my time in the club and look forward to learning the ropes on the committee as Race Director.
Liz O’Connor, Junior Officer

Working in Westpark in 2002, 4 of us decided to raise money for Crumlin Children’s Hospital by competing in a triathlon in Chicago. When we came back we had the bug and decided we were going to join a club.
We looked around, but didn’t find any clubs that met our needs, so we founded Pulse with the ethos that triathlon is a sport for everyone and there the story began.
Fast forward 21 years and having been involved in the sport ever since, I’ve completed all distances from supersprint to Ironman (or Challenge if you want to be precise). I’m in my second term as Club Children’s Officer for Pulse, I am one of the club coaches and held the women’s officer role for 3 years. My two children Cian and Aoife are also proud members of Pulse and have great fun in the junior section of the club.
My favourite discipline is cycling and when out racing, my two favourite chants are ‘I love the hills’ and ‘As the race gets longer, I get stronger’.
Pulse is a club for everyone from 8-88, all are welcome. There is nothing like the camaraderie that comes with being out racing and training in club colours.
Miriam (Mim) Ryan, Communications Officer

It didn’t take much convincing to get me to join the Committee in just my second year in the Club, I had drunk the Pulse Kool Aid. It’s even influencing what side of the city I’m attempting to buy a house in.
In 2024 I was Membership Officer and Acting Communications Officer and thoroughly enjoyed welcoming and supporting new, and existing members in the club.
For 2025 I will wear just one hat. As Communications Officer I’m tasked with promoting the club and celebrating what our members do. So, please do keep me up to date on fun and exciting things that you, or other club mates may be doing.
And remember to tag @pulsetriclub in your social media posts and to interact with the Club’s content.
Richie Barber, Technology Officer

I joined Pulse about 8 years ago. In 2024, I was the club Swim Rep and I’ve moved over to the newly formed Tech Committee for 2025. The main responsibility of the Tech Committee is to manage and maintain our website and booking tool (Kananas).
I’ve taken part in all Triathlon Distances and various other endurance races over the years. It’s very easy to persuade me to sign up to races, especially if someone says “I will if you will”.
Eoin Kennedy, Finance Officer

It was 2011 when I took the plunge to try Triathlon and I have been a member of Pulse ever since!
I really enjoy both training and racing. My swimming has come on very well by regularly attending club sessions.
After being in the club so long I’m happy to give something back by taking on a committee role.
Colin Jennings, Gear Officer

I joined Pulse a few years ago – I think 2016. I did one triathlon the year before. It was meant to be a Try a Tri, but there was some issue with the licences from TI, so we had a choice to do the sprint or just the bike and run. So we chose to do the sprint. It was a great experience and ever since then I’ve been hooked.
I’ve done everything from sprint to ironman and everything in between. I’ve known Richie Barber for over 25 years now and we kind of push each other on – sometimes foolishly, but always with a smile on our faces.
It is always great to see so much support from Pulse members and friends at races and while I’ve been slightly distracted these last few years with two young girls, I hope to get back into serious training this year.
